Chengalpattu Diabetic Care and Research Centre
CDC & RC was started in 2001 at Sree Renga Hospital premises to cater mainly to the lower socio economic group of people, in the villages around Chengalpattu, which is about 60 kms from Chennai city, in Tamilnadu.
Chengalpattu is a town inhabited by middle income and lower middle income groups of persons. There are more than 100 small villages and 10 small towns in the ambit of 30 kms from Chengalpattu. Inhabitants are mostly agriculturists, small artisans and traders. Their income is very meagre. Awareness of health problems among this rural population is low & health is given the least priority due to socio economic reasons.
Due to our changing lifestyles, Diabetes which was once considered a problem associated with affluence, is now found in the people belonging to the lower socio economic group – the disadvantaged underpriviledged in the villages. Hence to create awareness, to educate people and to meet all the needs of the Diabetic patients under one roof, the Chengalpattu Diabetic Care and Research Centre was established. |
