  Chengalpattu Diabetic Care and Research Centre Objectives  
  To create awareness about diabetes mellitus and to educate the public on a regular basis.  
To conduct free diabetes screening camps
To provide counselling and treatment for diabetes and follow up action.
To do clinical research on diabetes.
 
    Diabetes Awareness and Education  
 
Monthly free diabetic camps are being conducted in the centre and in the nearby villages with the help of Audiovisual aids, related lectures, demonstration of diabetic diet recipes by trained dieticians.
Various interactive sessions are held with Diabetic patients by the diabetes care providers.
Diabetic exhibitions are being conducted in the villages around Chengalpattu to create awareness about diabetes and to educate the people.
The center has been publishing a free monthly diabetic journal registered under Newspaper of India, (RNI) in the local language Tamil by the name of “Inippum Nivaranamum”.
New innovation in diabetic education for the rural population – A “Puppet show on diabetes” has been started to help the rural people in village to understand more about diabetes. About 41 puppet shows have been done in all the camps by the Diabetic team members and nursing staffs of CDC & RC.
 
On the occasion of world diabetes day, CDC & RC has conducted many competitions for the public – diabetic cookery, diabetic walk to increase the awareness about diabetes.
Diabetes awareness rally has been organized for the past 8 years in which students from all schools, colleges, and participated in the rally around 2500 along with NGO.
Every year on the event of world diabetes day, CDC & RC has been conducting various competitions on healthy living among schools and college students of kancheepuram district like speech/essay competition on diabetes and healthy living
 
  Free Diabetes Screening Camps
Diabetes awareness and detection camps were conducted involving the local health authority and various NGO groups/local panchayat heads. About 184 diabetic camps have been conducted in the villages.
CDC & RC has done free blood sugar screening tests for nearly 46,000 people in and around the 100 villages of chengalpattu from 2001-2009.
Free complication detection camps have been conducted.
 
Diabetic retinopathy screening camps.
 
Cataract detection camps have been done.
 
Free cataract eye surgeries have been done     for patients detected to have cataract and     glasses have been distributed.
 
 Diabetic retinopathy treatment with laser have     been done for patients with the help of NGO     organizations.
 
   
 
Free dental screening camps have been conducted for patients with diabetes and treatment has been given by the dentists of CDC & RC.
Free foot testing camps – Biothesiometer and Doppler testing for diabetic patients have been done and patients were given specialized foot wear
 
  Diabetic Counselling And Treatment
 
People are educated about the life style modifications to combat diabetes and to improve the quality of life. 
Trained diabetic nurses, educators, dieticians, counsellors are involved in the education of the patients about the importance of foot care in diabetes.
Patients suffering from various complications related to diabetes are referred to hospital.
